DVD-R doesn’t burn in OS X Lion
Recently I got into troubles when I tried to burn DVD-R in my superdrive. I have checked whether it was capable to do so. It was:
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
The issue was that all I got from my Mac was: “The disk can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media”. And that’s it. Message looks like this:
and after pressing OK, Finder was freezing. Just like at the picture below:
Now. There is a solution for that. Not quite obvious, but it works fine. To fix this issue, got to
System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs
and select default actions to
When you insert a blank CD: Open Finder When you insert a blank DVD: Open Finder
Now, insert your blank DVD-R into SuperDrive. You will see “Untitled” with radiation mark on the sidebar.
To burn anything simply Copy-Paste the files and press radiation button. That’s it.
Update

Eventually, it ended up with opening DVD drive and cleaning the laser lenses. This way I was able to get my drive working again.
