So called decline of StackOverflow
It looks like there are tones of news flying around regarding the 6th major extinction, that is The Decline of StackOverflow.
I don’t know whether this is true or not. I haven’t seen and analysed any sensible data to judge about that. However, I can give you my personal perspective.
I have stopped contributing to this site after few of my carefully crafted answers (each consuming ~1h-2h of my life) were heavily downvoted and rejected by people in power. I did not fight back, I haven’t complained. Instead, I silently walked away. I have moved all my answers into my personal blog and I have started adding comments only. I become extremely bored with all the fight for the points. Over a course of 10 years I have contributed 464 answers. In a whole 2024 I have contributed only 1 answer which is around 2% the average number of answers per year. If you ask me whether I feel any remorse over StackOverflow going into decline, well not really. I have moved to my personal, fully controlled, web space few years back. 2022 was the year when I felt something, when I started to leave so called social media. Today, I really don’t quite care whether StackOverflow will be taken over by AI or not.
